Term: Permanent, Full-Time Position

Location: Humboldt, Saskatchewan with ability to work remotely 2-3 days/week

The Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) is an ISO 9001:2015-registered organization established in 1975 to provide a unique resource to both prairie farmers and agricultural machinery manufacturers. Today, in addition to continuing our agricultural priorities, PAMI has also evolved to serve the needs of both the mining and transportation industries. With a professionally diverse staff, PAMI is committed to providing excellence in product development, testing, and design. We offer our clients access to valuable agricultural testing and benchmarking equipment as well as first-rate testing equipment for industry. PAMI also offers computer-aided engineering technologies. With these technologies, PAMI is able to digitally prototype a structure, bulk material, or fluid to analyze the performance of a particular product or system.

In recent years, PAMI’s mandate and capabilities have expanded to include a portfolio of technical services and expertise that, today, include:

  • Engineering consulting services
  • Agrology services
  • Mechanical research & testing services
  • Crop processing & nutrient management

From an industry perspective, PAMI’s strategic focus has grown beyond the agriculture industry to also include top-tier consulting and related services to the mining and transportation sectors. As technology in these sectors continues to advance, PAMI’s service offering and areas of technical expertise are expected to evolve to include automation, numerical modelling, computer science, and data management.

The Opportunity:

This role is a key leader of the senior management team that reports directly to the President/CEO. The Director, Finance is responsible for the organization’s overall financial (including risk mitigation) and administration processes.  The director leads the Business Enablement team consisting of 3 to at most 7 direct reports, including contractors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The following are the general responsibilities of this position but are not inclusive of all detailed tasks that may be required to be successful:

Operational Excellence:

  • Set performance criteria at the beginning of each fiscal year and conduct at a minimum quarterly performance evaluations with and for the Business Enablement
  • Participate and represent the Business Enablement team in annual priorities and budget planning activities.
  • Manage budget of overall organization with the CEO ensuring variances and anomalies are addressed proactively.
  • Lead the organization’s continuous improvement efforts regarding corporate policies and procedures.

Diversify Revenue and Skills:

  • Provide coaching, guidance, direction, and leadership to the Business Enablement
  • Oversee the coordination of personnel and resources required to successfully complete monthly and year end finalization.
  • Ensure PAMI’s total compensation is market competitive and sustainable in terms of financial requirements but also contributes to a positive corporate culture of innovation, collaboration and mutual success.
  • Lead recruitment and resourcing for the Business Enablement team.

 Business Leadership:

  • Lead annual audit.
  • Administer property and liability insurance programs for the operations of PAMI.
  • Evaluate and strengthen internal controls of the Corporation further to the annual findings of the Provincial Auditor’s Office.
  • Present improvements to disclosure controls, procedures, and internal control over financial reporting – changes are subject to approval of the CEO.
  • Keep CEO aware of the financial position and financial development of the Corporation.
  • Review and deliver the Company’s monthly financial reporting packages (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow analysis of 6-12 months and review of AP, AR).
  • Assist in the implementation of appropriate key performance indicators to monitor and drive the financial performance of the Corporation.
  • Advance the training of all colleagues working on financial, accounting, audit, or fiscal matters.
  • Review and monitor information technology, leaseholds, and procurement.
  • Ensure the accounting team is meeting targets to prepare and deliver financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Fully communicate transparently and collaborate with the Corporation’s external auditors.
  • At the request of the CEO – attend meetings of the Board and its Committees and present the financial information necessary or relevant to the Board or such Committee for discharging its duties.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on the P&L and Balance Sheet positions and offer strategic input as to how PAMI can improve financially.
  • Oversee employee benefits programs.

Voice of the Customer:

  • Enable and support excellent internal customer support as measured by the employee engagement survey results.
  • Provide solutions and action plans to address areas where the organization is not operating efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • University undergraduate degree with appropriate accounting or finance designation with 10+ years’ experience in a senior accounting, operations or project management roles
  • Specialized training – GAAP, PSAB, accounting programs (Sage, QuickBooks); and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • General knowledge – MS Office, Projects Online, operations, supervisory
  • Creative problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to complete projects on schedule and within budget
